What is a hanger

A hanger is a building specially made to carry out maintenance on aircraft.

Everything that cannot be done at the line maintenance must be done in the hanger. In hangers u can find cranes, steps, boxes, special tools, wiring equipment, highlift machinery, etc.

Aircraft are usually send to the hanger for routine maintenance (A-checks, B-checks, C-checks and D-checks) but also for the bigger technical dificulties wich cannot be solved on the line.

When the aircraft has a defect wich prevents it from further flight, that aircraft is then called a.o.g. (aircraft on ground). This is ofcourse a very uneconomical way of using this aircraft.

The hanger is not only a place for the ground engineers but also for stores, planning, logistics and other departments vital to a proper maintenance environment.
